save ginny weasley

So yesterday, Tucson's Club Congress had a Harry Potter party where Harry and the Potters performed! It you don't know who they are, they're a Harry Potter themed band, and they play songs based on Harry Potter. It was a super fun show, and there was a ton of cool stuff there!

I wore a red and white striped dress with a brown belt.

It felt a little Gryffindor! There were so many kids dressed up, and even some adults! They had a giant set up of Wizard Chess, a man reading tea leaves, and some Butterbeer! I didn't get to try the Butterbeer, there was a huge line.

When I got home, I decided to try a hair tutorial I saw on Youtube: curling my hair with socks!

When I woke up, I had some pretty fun curls! Next time, I'll do it a bit better and a bit tighter. I think I'll try it again soon! You can find a bunch of tutorials on Youtube.

fairy tale things: Hanna

So tonight I watched a movie called Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett. The movie isn't ordinarily something I'd consider putting on my blog under the title "fairy tale things", except for the fact that the film is heavily, heavily influenced by fairy tales!

(I love her long, white blonde hair + her blonde blonde eyebrows. Makes her look otherworldly!)

The plotline is: sixteen year old Hanna has been trained by her father to become an assassin. She has never been part of the modern world, raised in a forest with her father. She goes on her own into the world for a mission across Europe, while ruthless CIA agents hunt her. The plotline alone raises several fairy tale comparisons: young, beautiful girl (without a mother) who has been kept away from society finds herself being hunted.

The visuals really call upon the fairy tale motif as well. There are countless beautiful shots that the director Joe Wright (famous for Atonement and Pride and Prejudice) uses to really bring about this feeling. Even some of the dialogue is taken directly from fairy tales!

(See this beautiful shot?! Hanna and the wolf. Wonderful!)

It was a great action movie, a lot of fun, and beautifully reminiscent of fairy tales! If you want a fun thriller, I really recommend it!

muffins!

Photobucket

As I am done with my undergraduate career, I have mostly moved out of Tucson. This is a pretty sad thing for me. Most of my friends live in Tucson, and I've loved living there for the past five years. I am now living with my parents once again in Phoenix, which really isn't that far from Tucson. So now I'm living in Phoenix, which is pretty fun because my parents have two puppies who love playing with me. So fun!

I don't have a job, however, which is kind of a bummer. So I've been trying to spend my time not totally on the Internet and watching television.

Today's adventure was: baking muffins! I used a recipe from an old Betty Crocker cookbook I found in our house, and changed it slightly to create strawberry muffins! I also added a little bit extra sugar...

They turned out pretty good! I think tomorrow I'm going to try to crochet something new.
