So tonight I watched a movie called Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett. The movie isn't ordinarily something I'd consider putting on my blog under the title "fairy tale things", except for the fact that the film is heavily, heavily influenced by fairy tales!
(I love her long, white blonde hair + her blonde blonde eyebrows. Makes her look otherworldly!)
The plotline is: sixteen year old Hanna has been trained by her father to become an assassin. She has never been part of the modern world, raised in a forest with her father. She goes on her own into the world for a mission across Europe, while ruthless CIA agents hunt her. The plotline alone raises several fairy tale comparisons: young, beautiful girl (without a mother) who has been kept away from society finds herself being hunted.
The visuals really call upon the fairy tale motif as well. There are countless beautiful shots that the director Joe Wright (famous for Atonement and Pride and Prejudice) uses to really bring about this feeling. Even some of the dialogue is taken directly from fairy tales!
(See this beautiful shot?! Hanna and the wolf. Wonderful!)
It was a great action movie, a lot of fun, and beautifully reminiscent of fairy tales! If you want a fun thriller, I really recommend it!
I reallllly loved this film! Stunning acting, scenery and dialogue.
